No More Book-Learning for Me

This one’s just a very quick post to finalise my progress on my postgraduate studies.  Which is to say:

I PASSED MY MBA WITH COMMENDATION!

Hooray!  Thank goodness for that!  If there’s one lesson learned, it’s that I’m done with academia.  Not that all the hard work wasn’t worth it, of course it was, and if you’re looking to choose a university yourself for business studies then definitely have a look at what the University of Hertfordshire has on offer.  I’ve made some great friends, and plenty of new colleagues with whom I am certain to collaborate in the future.

So, there are three more letters that I can add to my name.  Excellent.  Now to order some new business cards!

MBA Dissertation Done!

Well, this is just a short and sweet post to celebrate that I HAVE FINISHED MY MBA DISSERTATION!  WOO HOO!

It’s all handed in, and the results are now in the hands of the gods (so to speak).  I started with all the best intentions to “do well”, but now at the end of the whole course I will be happy with just a pass!

*fingers firmly crossed*

What’s also excellent, is that I will be able to start writing about some of the other (hugely wide range of) subjects that I am interested in, and actually post on here more regularly.  And, you know, go out places and see what the UK and the rest of the world has to offer outside of a classroom or office!  That’s the plan anyway.

Until next time..

I know I’m stressed, but that’s not such a bad thing.

I’ve been told recently that I should avoid stressful situations, because stress causes migraines.  That’s a very simplistic take on an extremely complex subject.  I’m not sure that avoiding stress is even possible, or more realistically, should I?  I may not get out of bed in the morning.  Ever again.

Passed my January Exams!

Our results came out this afternoon for our exams taken just a few weeks ago in January.  I was unsure how I had done, but happily I PASSED! (Does the Happy Dance!)

*phew*!

No re-takes for me at all so far!  So, that means I have a stack of coursework and one exam for this last semester of classes, then I have to do my own project.. and then I’m done!

Roll on April 2014!

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: MBA 1.5 Year Milestone

Back to the Booklearning: Corporations

So, I’ve started back at university for my second year of study for my Master of Business Administration (MBA). I was both surprised and pleased when I found out earlier in the year that I had passed the first year without to much bother. By which I mean, I didn’t have to retake anything.. There was definitely “bother” when it came to my stress levels! (I do find that I set my own bar too high; I am something of a perfectionist. So when I metaphorically drop the ball, I get really frustrated!).

Now we’re back at the hard graft. For me, this means hours and hours with my head stuck in books. And not the nice easy to read kind, the slow laborious facts and figures kind! I must admit that I am quite lucky to be able to read quite fast (I read The Green Mile in less than 2 days, a few years back – 800+ pages). So actually getting through the quantity I have to read isn’t too bad. Remembering all the content, well that’s another story!

The book I’m currently reading is called “The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power” by Joel Bakan. (via Goodreads)

MBA: One year down, One (and a bit) to go!

Just a quick post to shout to the world that I’ve been working on a part-time MBA (Master of Business Administration) with the University of Hertfordshire. I’ve had NO social life for the past year! But I’ve managed to pass the exams and therefore the first year of the course! HOORAY! Just one more year of classes (in addition to working my day job) and then a project after that.. and I’ll be really finished. In every sense of the word.

And subsequently, in true form (for me) I end up with a migraine the following day! That’s how it seems to go: stress, stress, stress, No stress, Good News, MIGRAINE! Every. Single. Time.

Oh well..

This MBA thing seemed like a good idea at the time!
